I met Selina a while ago when she decided to pick me as her birth photographer. We clicked straight away and I was so over the moon to be chosen to document such a special event of her life. Probably one of the most special ones! Her journey towards getting pregnant was not an easy one. I could tell straight away that this little baby developing inside her meant the world to them.
Although her pregnancy went so well, things got a little complicated towards the end. Despite both of us wanting to make this happen, I wasn’t able to be there with her when her beautiful baby girl was born.
You can imagine my excitement when Selina got in touch with me to ask if I could take some photos of her and Isla! She was diagnosed with post natal depression was Isla was only 8 weeks old. Therefor they didn’t get the chance to document their special bond up until now. We had a lovely time catching up and most importantly photographing them two, in all their beauty. It was so obvious from the very beginning how much they love each other and how very strong their relationship is.
Now that my Mother’s Day session have come to an end, I feel a little sad. I absolutely loved doing them, but I am so grateful that I was able to witness the most pure and honest kind of love that exists.
Motherhood will always be a huge focus in my work. It is an endless source of inspiration. Not only as a photographer, but also as a mother myself. We never think it’s important for us to get in the frame. But one day, our babies won’t have us around anymore. And that’s when those photos will mean everything to them!
